Hurricane Road rises steadily and beautifully from near sea level at Port Angeles and heads south over 5,000 feet of elevation into the Olympic Mountains to near Hurricane Ridge. Along the way are many viewpoints, 3 tunnels bored into the mountains, and the occasional nonchalant black bear. Near road’s end, a visitor center provides information, and further along is the trailhead to Hurricane Ridge and hiking destinations further distant east and south.
