The North Mountain Fire Outlook is perched on a beautiful summit with 360 degree views into the Cascade Mountain range and forests. From the roads and trails leading up, you can see Mount Baker, Mount Shuksan, Glacier Peak, and even the Olympic Mountains, among many others. Once at the lookout, you can ascend the stairs to nearly the very top of the lookout, though the topmost deck can be locked from access. Nonetheless, definitely ascend the stairs since the views increase with every step.

To reach the North Mountain Fire Outlook, from the town of Darrington take Forest Service Road 2810 as far as you can go. During winter months, the unplowed road can become difficult to pass even for heavy duty 4 wheel drive vehicles and even early in the snow season, plus there is a locked gate across the road well over a mile down from the lookout. You can park lower and snowshoe or perhaps walk up the road and then connect with hiking/mountain biking trails or continue on the road all the way up to the lookout.

The location has terrific views, yet it is not a very well known or travelled location. So, you can get a great experience with some privacy at the same time.
