The Shoe Tree is set back off the north edge of remote rutted gravel Holberg Road that connects Vancouver Island’s northeast town of Port Hardy with the small dwindling logging town of Holberg. Pay attention since you may just see it out of the corner of your eye and need to go back to verify if you actually really did see a large cedar tree covered in hundreds of shoes.

Local lore says that the tree was started as a joke in the 1970s, and in 1989 a local resident really took off with it and added shoe upon boot upon sandal. There is a bag of nails and a rusty hammer there too, waiting for any passerby who wants to contribute.
