Quartermaster Harbor is a protected harbor on the east side of Vashon Island, wrapped around by land-connected Maury Island. The north shores are lined by old summer cabins converted to full time residences, interspersed with the occasional big money mansion. The southern shores become more natural, rising up from natural beaches to forested hillsides above.

We put in at Burton Acres Park, where a convenient kayak rental facility is located. South and on the other side of the harbor lies grassy Dockton Park, which was our second stop after an earlier leg stretch and lunch break on the primitive southwest shores. Fun gunkholing, shoreline watching, and cruising with some boats, plus the view of Mt. Rainier was terrific as we came out of the mouth of the bay.
