Shayona And Garrett Sea Kayaking By Sucia Island In The San Juan Islands

Shayona and Garrett practicing speed kayaking (they are towing a couple water skiers off the side of the picture) around the shores of Sucia Island in the northern parts of the San Juan Islands near Canada. Karen and I joined them on a 4 day sea kayaking and camping trip that took us from Orcas Island and around both Sucia and Patos Islands. Each day we were out exploring nooks and crannies, hiking, kayaking, and enjoying the peace.

Eastern Sucia Island View From Trail Near Ewing Cove Out To Orcas Island And Mt Constitution

View from the hiking trail around eastern Sucia, looking out over Ewing Cove to Orcas Island and Mount Constitution in the far distance. Both Sucia and Patos Islands are entirely comprised of park lands, so everything here is undeveloped except for the soothing, protected waterfront camp spots and the hiking trails.

Patos Island Lighthouse, San Juan Islands

This old lighthouse still remains on the otherwise deserted island of Patos. We hopped around on the rocky shoreline and took in views across the water to Canada. Beyond this open grassy area, the island is mostly forested and has an insane number of juicy huckleberry bushes. Needless to say, our tongues were sweet and purple after that hike…

Sunset At Sucia Island Shallow Bay Entrance With View Of Boundary Pass

Karen, Shayona, and Garrett relaxing on the shore of Sucia as we all watched the Sun set over the water of Boundary Pass. Our campsite was in Shallow Bay to the left, and it was an easy evening hike to this spot after dinner and before a campfire.
