The Free Art Shrine of Camano Island. This funky little piece of the local landscape was recently built by a nice and somewhat eccentric owner of the adjoining nursery. He has lived on Camano for 20 years, since when it was very rural and before Seattle started moving closer. He’s actually selling his nursery so that he can move somewhere out in the sticks of the Olympic Peninsula, but in the mean time he has erected this shrine to recognize that everyone is an artist, not just those who spend time in fancy, expensive galleries. It encourages people to take whatever piece of art they want, but the rule is that the taker must also leave something in its place. However, there is no judging of what is considered art, so it’s pretty much an eclectic free-for-all of art-stuff.
