It was December, the snow was starting to accumulate, and sledding was a good festive holiday kind of thing to do. We headed up to Snoqualmie Pass and sledded on the hill at Hyak, dodging errant saucers, runaway tubes, and oblivious parents as needed.
The hill has easy access from the Hyak Sno-Park parking lot, and offers a good alternative to trying to find sled areas on the Snoqualmie Pass ski slopes since the ski patrol doesn’t allow sledders there for out-of-control safety reasons. The surface is groomed, signed, and has a run-off area with berm at the end to catch runaway gravity speeders. A Sno-Park / Groomed Trails permit is required to park at the lot, and the permit can be purchased through an onsite attendant or at the gas station on the road west by the ski resort.
