The Port Townsend Kinetic Sculpture Race attracts a ragtag group of folks who like to blend creativity and ingenuity, and then put it all on public display in a pseudo-race that is all for fun. The race extends across two days, spanning an initial show in a parade, then a parade down Water Street, then onto the “competition” including brakes test on a hill, water section, road section, and mud section. Entrant vehicles must be entirely human powered and carry everything with them that they use for all legs of the race, though they can reconfigure components between different legs. Primary focus is on having fun and being goofy, with prizes that center more around the fun and the goofy than the fastest.
